The Sherman's Lagoon screensaver for Windows is free of charge and does not require a license or a fee of any kind. However, for those who want to redistribute, and need specific license wording, please see the bottom of this page.
InstructionsSherman's Lagoon is an animated screen saver created by Jim Toomey and Chris Yourch. It is self-installing - just follow the menu commands. The file size is approximately 1.2 MB. Only the 32-bit version remains on the site; We have removed the 16-bit version from the server. The Sherman's Lagoon screensaver was originally configured years ago to be optimal in the Win 3.1 environment. We subsequently modified it for Win95. Since the release of Win98, Win2000, NT, and XP we have encountered many tech support questions. Unfortunately, there seem to be many incompatibilities . Long story short is, if you're running WIn 98 or a later OS, you're likely to encounter installation problems.
Regarding Win XP, we get this suggestion from a reader: This is a self-installing 32-bit screen saver (File size =1.3 MB) Sadly, not all browsers will execute the above installation. If you get an error message, then try the ZIP file below. This simpler version works with both WIN3.X and WIN95. Simply click on the link, select a destination folder, and it'll download, then follow the instructions below. You'll need a piece of shareware called PKUnzip to decompress it. Instructions for Lagoon.zip: 1) Download the lagoon.zip file to your hard drive. Download lagoon.zip (32 bit version) (File size = 0.9 MB) Uninstalling the Sherman Screensaver: To uninstall the Sherman Screensaver, simply run your "find file" utility and locate the lagoon.sc_ or lagoon.scr file, and delete it.
Known Irregularities:On certain machines the comic strips don't appear. According to our bug report there are three ways to get the comics to appear in this circumstance:
1) Run the monitor in VGA video mode rather than SVGA mode. WARNING: The password protection is lame. There is a relatively easy workaround for the password protection, and your desktop is not very secure with this screen saver. NOTE: A nice way to cure insomnia is to set the predator/prey fish to about 99, turn the light out and count the screams. USE OF THIS SCREENSAVER This is a Free Software License
